HOW WE HELP People and Planet
We collaborate with various stakeholders on projects that have positive ecological impact, build community, and work toward a better future for people and planet. We are fully committed to principles and practices that encourage and support good environmental stewardship, and help cultivate resilient communities. We have worked schools, businesses, community organizations, families, property holders, and others to design, build, install, and help maintain orchards, gardens, small-scale farms, ecological landscapes, greenhouses, composting systems, green spaces, outdoor classrooms, and beyond. When needed, we can also help build operational fluency and organizational capacity for our partners to help ensure that their projects are a long-term success.
Our Approach
The process for every client starts with a discussion either via email or a phone call to learn about your needs, and for you to learn about our approach and how we can help. After that, we schedule an on-site or remote consultation depending on the type of project and your preferences. After this, we can work together to develop a plan on moving the project forward.
What is
Ecological Design
Ecological design is the intentional crafting of spaces that harmonize with the natural world. Rather than imposing human preferences without regard for the ecosystems around us, ecological design seeks to integrate human needs in a way that honors the surrounding ecology.
In practical terms, this means using sustainable materials, minimizing waste, conserving water, avoiding poisons and pollution, and supporting biodiversity.
Our work lives by the ethics of permaculture, which are summarized as "earth care, people care, and fair share." These ethics guide the design making process by emphasizing the importance of sustainability, community well-being, and the equitable distribution of resources. An example would be designing a garden not only to produce food, but also to provide habitat for wildlife, create beauty, and foster a sense of connection to Nature.
